I meant to update a while ago and... life got hectic. :( I got really caught out with my TCGs, which means I've missed a ton of stuff and I'm still struggling to get back into the groove. Anyway, gonna do a bullet point update.
  • My accommodation has been paid for, which means I am definitely going to university. I have (just under) six weeks until I move there.
  • I saw Guardians of the Galaxy twice last week and I loved it. There are things I'd be willing to nitpick about it, but it remains the most fun I've had with a movie this year--or even in the past few years. It is an incredibly enjoyable cinema experience. I'd recommend it to everyone.
  • I've been thinking about the Matrix a lot lately.
  • I was really sick with a 48 hour stomach flu thing last week, it's since spread to my mom and now my dad, so I hope I don't get it back.
  • July was... hectic. It was only really in the last week that it calmed down.
I don't really have anything hugely interesting to say, aha. I definitely want to do a review post for GOTG, but later.

I said I wasn't going to post this entry until later but I have coding to do and I'm procrastinating starting that.

Orange is the New Black is a Netflix original series based on Piper Kerman's memoir, Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison, and, as you might have guessed, focuses on the lives of a group of women in prison. It's a comedy-drama and, while it's not perfect, it's a television series that focuses on women, on gay and bisexual women (although the word "bisexual" isn't mentioned, I think), on women of colour (particularly black and latina women), on trans women! If you've seen OITNB, you'll know this already. If you don't and you want to watch it, I advise watching it before you read this entry, because there are spoilers for season one and season two.

Here be spoilers. )

Remember when I said I was going to use this to get back into the habit of regularly posting updates? Aha, yeah. Me too.

I didn't update a lot last month because a) things were pretty quiet and b) I was on DW every day, but I've been busy playing [community profile] colors_tcg. I... really like online TCGs, you guys. I was taking part in their Pot of Gold challenge last month, so that kind of preoccupied my time, but I'm not bothering with it this month because I'm not interested in any of the grand prizes.

Anyway, a couple of things.

I will get around to answering that meme sometime soon... I have a couple of off-site responses to it to collect and reply to as well, but I'll work on it when I have some free time this week.

I have a few things that I want to review sometime soon! I finished season two of Orange is the New Black on Sunday (it took me less than 48 hours, although I know other people have finished it quicker than I have) and I have a lot of things that I want to say about it, so that's first on my list. I have a couple of other things I want to talk about as well, but I still need to finish most of them first. :x Soon, though. Very soon.

It's sixteen weeks (or just under) until I go to university and I'm nervous about money but I'm pretty excited about going. My friend and I went down to the city I'm going to on Friday to go see another of our friends who's in their third year there (and thus leaving soon), and we had a lot of fun! It was really nice to just hang out and talk--and we did talk a LOT, my throat was really sore by the time I got home and on Saturday--and I'm glad I have both of those people in my life.

My mom and I went out for dinner as a spur of the moment thing yesterday as well, and it was really nice just getting to sit and talk with her. I know a bunch of my friends have slightly pushy or overbearing mothers, and it's not like mine doesn't ever occasionally nag, but... we have a really good relationship now. We didn't used to when I was younger but we've put that behind us and we're a lot closer now and I'm glad. It's nice to know that I can tell her pretty much anything.

When I was writing this post in my head, it was a LOT longer than I thought it was going to be, aha. I have some stuff that I gotta do before I can start writing the OITNB post, but I'd expect to see that on your feed sometime soon.

Really quick update seeing as it's been a week and I still haven't made a lot of progress on anything in my life so far, and I don't think I'm going to get those comments answered today.

[personal profile] alexy and I have made some good progress into Twin Peaks--we started, what, last Tuesday? And I think we left off after episode 13 of season 2 yesterday, so we've only got nine episodes left to watch? We're still enjoying it even if we're a bit like "uh, what is happening" with some things, and also, "why does everyone keep having torrid affairs with everyone else in this town and when will they stop".

I really haven't done a lot else lately. Been playing Spyro on my PSP a lot, and that's about it!

It's May 1st! September seems even closer, seeing as it's four months away. In reality, it's closer to five until I go to university--I won't have to go down until around September 20th--but I imagine those last three weeks will be spent running around visiting my family and friends and making sure I have everything I need.

I spend every Spring thinking "I should really participate in Spring cleaning this year", and then when I finally remember or feel up to the task of doing it, it's June. Actually, June/July is around the time that I feel up to cleaning, so maybe it's Summer cleaning for me? Who knows.

I do need to sort my wardrobe out sometime soon, seeing as if I don't, it's going to get left until I'm trying to pick what I need for my first semester at university and what I don't, and... that will be a nightmare. Plus, I don't think I've really bothered to sort it out again since I got it, and that was last July. I'm not looking forward to doing it. ;A;

I need to sit down and plan for [community profile] trope_bingo, now that I have my card. I have way too many ideas for some squares and no ideas at all for others, so I have to think about it or I'm never going to even try and get a bingo (and I'd like to try).

I've started every paragraph so far with an "I" (even the first one is "It's"), so let's break that pattern, aha.

My friend [personal profile] alexy started using Dreamwidth after my casual insistence (and... she pretty much made a new one to follow me, then I found her old account and she managed to log back into it), so I guess now is as good a time as any to say:

Ask me to blog about anything and I will include it in my next entry.

Which you can combine with:

Ask me my Top Five Whatevers. Fannish or otherwise. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! And I will answer them all in a new post (or in comments). Possibly with pictures.

My head hurts.

I got my new bed on Friday! It is so incredibly comfortable. I forgot what it was like to sleep on a bed that doesn't creak when you move or dig you in the back or wasn't partially sunk in on itself.

I've also been playing Persona 4! )

In other news, I watched a bit more of Kamen Rider Wizard and I think I've finally found my interest in it. It took me about nine episodes and Haruto getting some backstory, but I am eager to keep watching until I get to Beast (who'll be around... episode 16, I imagine), which is when it's supposed to get really good, because Beast's a great character. Or so I've heard!

I also need to settle on what I want to do for my [community profile] trope_bingo card... the middle row (au: fusion, curtainfic, free space, au: mundane, au: supernatural) is pretty much my bingo row, I can fill those easily, but I have so much to choose from in terms of what fandoms to pick and what I can do that I don't know where to start.

I signed up for [community profile] colors_tcg on Saturday, as some of you might have seen! Also, I'm sorry if any of you kept getting hit with my card post before I managed to get it under the cut. It was a pain.

I'm excited about it! I was a member of [livejournal.com profile] anime_lj_tcg in 2007/2008 and I really enjoyed it, but I ended up leaving because I had a lot of difficulty playing some of the games and it was getting harder for me to earn cards, which meant I had less to trade with, which meant I had less chance of completing my decks... and then I think I stopped having so much time for it, since I had school to deal with as well. But I did enjoy it and I'd recently been thinking about making my own TCG (weeps quietly), so I'm glad I found this one to scratch the itch.

I'm still waiting on my [community profile] trope_bingo card, but I'm not too surprised! I did notice that there was some time between each set of cards given out, and it has been Easter this weekend. So I understand that the mods are probably busy.

Speaking of Easter, Happy Easter to everyone who celebrated it, and Happy Eat Chocolate Day to everyone who celebrated that! I hope you had a nice time.

My weekend has been okay. My sleep hasn't really improved (I'm sleeping in stretches of about four to five hours) and my mood was awful last week thanks to PMS, but I'm feeling better today. I'm treating myself to a lazy day, which means that I am absolutely not getting out of my PJ pants unless I go in the bath or something, and I'm also staying in my room for most of the day. I feel bad that I'm not letting the cats outside but I can't be bothered to sit downstairs with them. Also, it's so misty here that it's kind of resembling Silent Hill, so they probably won't go out for very long even if I did let them out.

The only other semi-interesting thing I have to share is that my friends told me to play Persona 4 on Thursday, and I realised that I could actually PLAY Persona 4 because I have a PS2... I don't know why it took me this long to realise that. I ordered on Thursday and I THINK it just came about ten minutes ago, while I've been writing this entry, so I'm going to go and check to see if it did come. And then I'm gonna play it.

Went to bed at midnight because I was pretty sleepy. Didn't actually get to sleep until about ten to five in the morning... and I had to get up at half past nine because I had somewhere to be.

Hopefully I'll sleep tonight.

I had an email from my university yesterday saying that they hadn't received confirmation of my accommodation yet, even though we'd sent the stuff out on April 1st and it was apparently received April 3rd. Got in touch with them this morning and it turns out that they had received my confirmation, but the university had sent the automated reminder out to everyone.

At least it's sorted though? I'm supposed to be getting another email later today to finalize it or something.

I had some creative things I wanted to do today, but mostly I just want to take a nap.

Managed to write ~230 words tonight.

I consider that to be a small amount compared to what I can write if I push myself (anywhere upwards of 400 words a day), but I haven't had a good writing day in a long time.

And it's 230 words, which is better than 0 words.

Well, I just signed up for [community profile] trope_bingo!

I have absolutely no idea if I'll manage to get a bingo, but I'd like to try.

I haven't written a journal entry in a while.

Every time that I think "I'm going to reintegrate myself in the online journal community", I inevitably end up neglecting to do so. I think the truth of the matter is that there's little in my life worth writing about at the moment! Everyone who is interested in my life gets updates about it on Tumblr and Twitter, if I don't speak to them directly.

That said, I'm going to university in September and I think I'd like to chronicle that in a way I can better look back on. I'm also expected to maintain a film review blog as part of my course, so it's probably a good idea to get back into the habit of writing in such a format before I go.

I'm probably going to use this account primarily for writing- and fandom-related purposes, but I don't doubt that personal posts will creep in from time to time.
